The conference has been cancelled. Sorry!

Our theme for 2006 was "the role of design [research, education, and practice] in international product development." In addition to the presentation of papers and case studies, as well as the availability of tutorials, the workshop provides a venue for meetings, discussion of results and cooperation at an international level. The Workshop is organized to maximize the exchange of information and ideas among a delegation from across the globe. Participants will leave with more knowledge and skills in the area of product and software internationalization, and a network of colleagues who are focused on the issues that globalization creates for the design and production of products and systems.

We encourage you to share your leading edge experiences with "the role of design [research, education, and practice] in international product development."

In line with the theme, we invite submissions in the following categories:

  • Design Research - effective theories, methods and approaches for multi-cultural product design and usability.
  • Design Education - evolution in the curriculum, topics of emphasis in the academia, and challenges presented by the demands of the global market.
  • Design Practice - innovation in international products and systems, design integration in product development process and organizational overviews.

Papers, Case Studies, Organizational and Academic Overviews may include:

  • Frameworks and methodologies for international product development
  • User interface internationalization
  • Theory, methods, and assessment techniques for product and system evaluation
  • Case studies: Experience of developing and applying internationalization in industry
  • Policies, strategies and trends in globalization and design
  • Education issues for global product design

Papers should describe the problems addressed, lessons learned and the nature of the contribution (e.g., theory, method, exemplars, tools, experience).

All submissions will be electronic. They are to be sent following the Author Guidelines in .RTF format, zipped, as attachments to e-mail, to review-chair@iwips2006.org, with the subject line "IWIPS 2006 Submission".

The Word version may be saved as a document template, making it easy for authors to insert their content customized to the format for the proceedings.

Review Criteria

All papers are assessed according to the following criteria:

  • Contribution to the field: The paper must make a clear contribution to one of the topics mentioned above with a clear contribution to the audience addressed. Papers with one significant contribution are more likely to be accepted than papers with numerous lesser contributions.
  • Validity of results: The results presented in the paper must be provided with clear evidence including the used methodology in a way that the reader can make use of them with confidence.
  • Originality of the work: Previously published work, on which the paper is built, has to be cited in conjunction with a clear presentation, in which way, where and why the submitted paper goes beyond it.
  • Clarity of presentation. The paper must be written understandable, clearly and concisely with an appropriate use of graphical aids.

Review process

Paper submissions are reviewed by researchers and practitioners who have an appropriate expertise and experience. The review process is managed by an Associate Chair. Each paper is reviewed anonymously by 3-5 reviewers. The Associate Chair writes a meta-review based on the opinion of the reviewer that the paper is either accepted, accepted with changes or not accepted and notifies the corresponding author.
